Cancer scenario

A Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) wants to check her facts for a patient with breast cancer who is concerned about her three daughters developing breast cancer. What level of positive family history is required for 1) genetic counselling and 2) early entry into the national breast cancer screening program?[QUESTION]

She looks up the e-Library for guidelines and policies.[SOURCE, EVALUATE] Under policy she finds a Health Department Letter (HDL).[FIND] This letter (HDL(2007)8) from the Scottish Executive Health Department Cancer genetic services in Scotland. Under guidelines there is a Clinical Knowledge Summary which summarises NICE guidelines.[FIND]

At the next meeting of the breast cancer team she updates them on her findings.[]

She then summarises her findings [COMBINE] for her patient to give to her daughters including the links to the documents. At the next consultation she is confident in informing her patient what she should tell her daughters.[APPLY]
