Scenarios

These pages use a series of scenarios to illustrate the stages or steps of the information literacy processes they are applied in a particular context. As the story progresses, the approriate step of the process is displayed in block text and in the colour relevant to that step in the process cycle. The first "story" shows how the later scenarios are presented.

Jill's high cholesterol
A patient wonders whether the level of medication she has been prescibed is suitable for her condition

Cancer
A Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) wants to check her facts for a patient with breast cancer.

Coronary heart disease
George is concerned about his cardio-vascular fitness and has heard about an initiative called Walk and Work which he believes is based on research from Mayo Clinic.

Dental
Jim is a dentist who has a patient with a mesially impacted wisdom tooth.

HAI
Laura works as a care assistant in a care home and wants to find out the correct hand washing method and when people should be washing her hands in the care home.

Information governance
The practice manager of a GP surgery receives a request to view the medical records of a patient.

Midwifery
Marion is a midwife who wants to find out whether there is new information available on the latent phase of labour that could be incorporated into the Scottish Normal Labour and Birth training materials.

Mental health
Jo, a member of the local mental health team, wanted to find out the prevalence of autism in the area compared to the average occurrence in the UK.

Stroke
Anna’s brother suffers from aphasia following a stroke - she is his primary carer.
